Recognition

Everyone loves to be recognized! This is a simple and easy way to make sure that your employees know they’re appreciated. Send weekly email shout outs or start each meeting with giving employees praise for what they’ve done that week! A little recognition can go a long way.

Snacks

You’ll find that a lot of items on this list have to do with food. That is because food is the way to peoples hearts, and even more importantly their stomachs. Think about having complimentary snacks for everyone to enjoy. Also, occasionally ordering things like cookies or cupcakes can be a fun “just because” way to say thank you to your team for their hard work!

Awards! (example: the Dundies)

Everyone loves the Oscars, The Tony’s, and The Grammy’s! Why not bring a little of that pomp and circumstance to your office? Of course, this doesn’t have to be a glamourous night full of speeches, ball gowns, and red carpets but having a day set aside at the end of the year to celebrate your team! This is a great idea to recognize their accomplishments in a fun way!

Happy Hour

Grab a couple of drinks on the office! Having a monthly happy hour is a great way to catch up with your team and see how they’re doing. Happy hours are also an opportunity for coworkers to get to know each other better. This could help them feel more comfortable with each other. Encouraging your team to get to know their coworkers improves their ability to collaborate and work together. So on top of being a great way to show your appreciation for your team, happy hours could also show results in the workplace!

Game Time

Game time!!! Who doesn’t love board games, cards or maybe even breaking out some online games? Use these games as team building or just as an opportunity for your employees to take a break. Nothing shows appreciation like a little friendly competition. 

Pizza Party

Okay, here’s another in the list of food related ideas. You can’t go wrong with a good pizza party! Pizza parties bring out the best in everyone, and it give you a chance to say thanks with a little triangle slice of heaven.

Send Thank You’s!

Here is an easy one! Hand written notes may be a thing of the past but that’s what makes them so special now. Have some thank you cards on hand, and write them to your coworkers occasionally. This is fun, easy, inexpensive way to show that you appreciate your employees and what they do!

Lunches

Lunch! Everyone needs it. Its that nice little time in the middle of the day to relax a little. But its also a great opportunity to connect with and appreciate your employees. Whether it’s taking a new employee out to lunch or a “just because” lunch outing, this is an awesome way to say thanks with food!

Coffee!

Last food related one I promise. Coffee is the life blood of the office. Some people can’t function without it (and probably have their “Don’t talk to me until I’ve had my coffee” cup handy). Use coffee shop gift cards. Or if you’re running to Starbucks before work, see if anyone wants anything! You can never go wrong with that precious caffeinated nectar.

What better way to appreciate your employees than by finding out how they want to be appreciated? Have a suggestion box or make a shared document where they can give ideas! Find what works best for your team and implement it where possible. Plus they’ll appreciate the fact that you want to discover new ways to appreciate them.
