Introducing our Member Spotlight series, where we shine a light on outstanding individuals in our communities Today, we are thrilled to feature AECOM, a renowned global infrastructure consulting firm. With a commitment to innovation and excellence, AECOM stands as a leader in delivering transformative projects that impact communities worldwide.

In this edition, we have the privilege of hearing from Sharon Woolard, who has dedicated over three decades of her career to AECOM. Join us as we delve into Sharon's journey, insights, and the remarkable impact she has made within the industry.

Tell us a little about AECOM?

AECOM stands as a leading global infrastructure consulting firm offering comprehensive professional services across all phases of projects, from planning and design to engineering and through program and construction management. With a global workforce exceeding 52,000 employees spread across every continent, AECOM relocated its headquarters from Los Angeles to Dallas in 2021.

What led you to start your career with AECOM?

My journey with AECOM began over 33 years ago when the Texas-based firm I was associated with, Turner, Collie & Braden, was acquired. I find immense satisfaction in working on AECOM's high-profile projects. The expansive scope of AECOM has not only facilitated profound learning experiences but also offered clear pathways for my career progression.

What sets your business apart from your competitors?

AECOM is a leading infrastructure firm delivering professional services for projects spanning transportation, water, buildings, alternative energy, and the environment. What sets AECOM apart from our competitors is our ability to think and act globally by blending local teams with our global experts to execute projects through innovative and cost-effective design. Furthermore, AECOM designs and implements projects through a sustainability lens by focusing on the type of materials, locations, logistics, and construction methods to help our clients manage the total cost of ownership and the full life cycle of infrastructure assets.

What is something you wish you’d known when you were just starting your professional career?

In my youth, I used to shy away from change, but with age, I've come to appreciate its importance. Change is inevitable, and embracing it is crucial for personal and professional growth. Each day presents an opportunity to learn something new and adapt accordingly.

How do you navigate your work-life balance?

The demand for speed and efficiency continues to escalate, especially in design projects. The rapid growth of the DFW area has heightened the urgency for infrastructure development, often leading to tight schedules and deadlines. Balancing work and personal life can be challenging.  However, I feel AECOM accommodates a healthy balance, understanding that it enhances productivity and overall mental well-being.

What is the most rewarding part of your job?

The most fulfilling aspect of my job is the sense of contribution and achievement it brings. Working alongside talented individuals from diverse backgrounds at AECOM enriches my experience, allowing me to immerse myself in various cultures from around the world.

How has being a part of the AECOM community affected you?

AECOM plays a pivotal role in numerous infrastructure enhancement projects across the DFW area. While construction phases may pose challenges, the ultimate goal is to alleviate traffic congestion and improve overall transportation efficiency.  Additionally, AECOM actively supports various community events in the metroplex, fostering opportunities for our employees to connect with the community and engage with our neighbors, ideally building understanding and goodwill.  Especially considering the inconvenience of daily traffic disruptions.

Why did you choose CityCentral Fort Worth as your office space?

City Central proves to be an ideal fit for AECOM's Fort Worth location. With the flexibility of remote work becoming more prevalent post-COVID, the necessity for a large office with dedicated spaces has diminished. Our Fort Worth team has embraced the open-concept layout and 'hoteling' desk arrangement. CityCentral offers modern amenities with a cozy ambiance, complemented by the exceptional hospitality of Chris and Kaylee.

If you had a friend in town and you could take them to one of your favorite restaurants or spots in your community, where would you take them?

When entertaining friends visiting town, I often explore Fort Worth's cultural district, museums, and Northside's Exchange Street, followed by dining and socializing at restaurants and bars along Magnolia Avenue. For authentic Mexican cuisine, Dos Molinas or Los Vaqueros in Northside are my top picks. Neighbors House, conveniently located across the street from City Central, is a personal favorite for its welcoming atmosphere.  With friendly staff, delicious food, and reasonable prices, it's a must-visit spot for any occasion.  While there, I feel like ‘Norm’, reminiscent of the iconic TV show "Cheers".  Yes, I just dated myself bigtime.

We would like to thank Sharon for being a part of our member spotlight series! If you would like to take part in our Member Spotlight Series, please don't hesitate to reach out to your CityCentral Community Manager.
