#CommunityOverEverything Hohman Finance

Welcome to our Member Spotlight Series, where we proudly showcase the unique talents and dedication of our CityCentral community members. Today, we have the pleasure of highlighting Jaye Hohman, owner and founder of Hohman Finance, a provider of mortgage management strategies in DFW. Join us as we learn more about Jaye and the passion and expertise he puts into providing top-notch services to his clients!

Tell us a little about Hohman Finance

Hohman Finance provides mortgage of all types to Texans. Our mortgage management strategies are designed to take advantage of interest rate cycles, provide additional protection against default, promote financial security and encourage wealth by focusing on cash flow rather than price appreciation.

What led you to joining/starting Hohman Finance?

I started my independent mortgage company to be able to provide clients with sincere advice about what they can truly afford and how to grow wealth by properly using mortgages. For over a decade I advised institutional investors and created mortgage-related derivatives to complement their asset/liability management strategies. I believe this is a better way for consumers to approach mortgages, too.

What sets your business apart from competitors?

The mortgage industry really doesn’t hold itself accountable to a fiduciary responsibility to provide customers sound financial guidance based on an understanding of their financial situation. Instead, I have seen that most lenders and their mortgage loan originators tend to push borrowers to the upper limits of a maximum loan amount and payment which often leads to financial stress and hardships rather than stability and wealth.

What is something you wish you’d known when you were just starting your business?

I wish I had known how necessary social media is to develop customers. I had never really been concerned with self-promotion, instead relying on more traditional business networking and referrals to advance my career. I basically had zero social media presence. And I still haven’t really figured it out, yet.

How do you navigate your work-life balance?

That’s tough for me. I’m used to working 10 to 12 hours or more each day and have done so my entire life. And it really doesn’t bother me. There is always more I can do and I definitely don’t like to procrastinate. I’m just not a 9-5 person. But I do try to take one entire day each week to not touch work at all, usually either Saturday or Sunday.

What is the most rewarding part of your job?

For most of the last ten years since moving here to Texas I have been originating loans. Some of those loans have been for debt consolidation, where I was able to dramatically improve people’s lives who had been told there was no hope. I have literally had people crying with joy over how I was able to help them!

How has being a part of the CityCentral community affected you and your business?

The staff has been immensely helpful and professional. Presley and Anell are two of the kindest people I have ever met. They always greet me with a smile and genuinely ask how my start-up is going. They have allowed me to bounce some ideas off of them and have been encouraging in every way.

If you had a friend in town, and you could take them to one of your favorite restaurants or spots in your community, where would you take them to?

I like to take guests from out of town to the Fort Worth Stockyards. It may seem a little touristy to people who have always lived here. But apart from the Alamo, I don’t know what could be more iconically representative of Texas.

We want to thank Jaye for his willingness and enthusiasm for participating in our Member Spotlight series.
