communityovereverything: Mavery LLC

Meet Patrick Farr, managing member of MAVERY LLC, a professional service company dedicated to helping owners stay ahead of the game by providing expert leadership in the building process. With years of experience in the construction industry, Patrick has a wealth of knowledge and expertise that he brings to every project. He is committed to providing a high level of service and ensuring that his clients' strategic advantage is maintained throughout the building process.

Tell us a little about MAVERY LLC.

MAVERY was incorporated in 2010 and oversees the delivery of CAPEX (capital expenditure) programs ranging from $1 million to $2 billion.  Specifically, MAVERY offers a number of CAPEX program support services for owners, including owner representation, program auditing and oversight, organization design, as well as process development, implementation, and auditing.

What led you to start MAVERY LLC?

After 22 years of making my way through the ranks on the commercial contracting side of the construction industry, I started MAVERY with the concept that the industry and those who engage in it require policing.  My work ethic, experience, and personality traits seemed to me to be a good fit for that type of service.

What sets your business apart from your competitors?

In the construction industry, holding an owner accountable is one of the most difficult skills to master.  Creating environments where both those who serve and those being served are held equally accountable through the life of a building program is what MAVERY does best.

What is something you wish you’d known when you were just starting your business?

The phrase “knowing what you don’t know” comes to mind.  Starting a business is easy, keeping it alive is hard, and building its reputation and brand is harder.  What I thought would be easy turned out to be the hardest of all: preserving the original meaning of the business.  Know the why first; with hard work and determination, the where, what, and how will ensue.

How do you navigate your work-life balance?

I believe it’s important to love both.  If that’s not possible, then give more weight to what you love and less to what you don’t.  Build a safety net out of finances and friends (mostly friends), because no matter how well you hold the balancing pole, the tightrope you are on will break.

What is the most rewarding part of your job?

Serving.

How has being a part of the CityCentral community affected you and your business?

CityCentral Fort Worth puts me in a spot close to home, near some of my favorite places to eat and have a cocktail. I’m also surrounded by other business owners and group leaders who show up to do what they do best.

If you had a friend in town and you could take them to one of your favorite restaurants or spots in your community, where would you take them?

Joe T. Garcias for beef fajita solo, two cheese enchiladas on top with extra gravy, and a steady flow of skinny margaritas made by Martin (Tino) himself.  For a cocktail, The Amber Room!
