#CommunityOverEverything Phrasing
We are highlighting the talent and work ethic of Tim Welsh, founder of Phrasing, who offices out of CityCentral Plano.
For this week's Member Spotlight, we've decided to highlight the talent and work ethic of Tim Welsh, founder of Phrasing, who offices out of CityCentral Plano. Phrasing is a full service digital creative agency that helps brands large and small tackle and implement creative strategies that best represent their goals. Join us as we learn more about how this business impacts clients and how Tim keeps everything in line behind the scenes!
1. Tell us a little about Phrasing.
Our company is Phrasing. We're a full-service digital marketing and creative agency. We specialize in helping challenger brands take market share away from larger brands with bigger budgets by creating digital marketing ecosystems that shepherd customers form discovery to first purchases and finally into lifetime loyalty.
2. What lead you to start Phrasing?
After working as a consultant, at multiple agencies, and as an internal marketing lead; I was fed up with the structure of how agencies tended to function and service. So much time was wasted on administrative tasks and so much of the best talent was kept away from working actively on client issues. I felt that there was a different way to structure an agency where the most talented people do the majority of the work. I set out to build that team and have watched Phrasing grow for 7 straight years.
3. What sets the business apart from competitors?
We build custom solutions for our partners and every single person that works on an account comes with 4+ years of experience. We only hire experienced pros and function more as a collective of talented consultants than as a traditional agency. We also removed the Account Services aspect from our business model so that clients get to speak directly to the members of our team that are working on their account.
4. What is something you wish you’d known when you were just starting your business?
There is so much that I wish that I knew. The hardest challenge was understanding that how teams function would change so much after 2020. There were changes in how people expect to work that fundamentally changed how we collaborated and we'll never go back to what it was before. I wish that I could have seen that aspect coming and planned more proactively.
5. How do you navigate your work-life balance?
As with every Founder, this isn't always easy. We're building on a dream so, it's hard to completely unplug. I've certainly created times to disconnect so that I don't lose sight of what's important outside of the office. When I get home and for designed times with my family, my phone goes into Airplane Mode so that I never lose track of the memories I get to create with my daughter, wife, and friends.
6. What is the most rewarding part of your job?
The most rewarding part of my job is watching my team build something that other teams couldn't and the excitement that brings clients when it works. Success that I have a direct hand in creating is great but, I think that I enjoy it more when it is purely created without me by members of Phrasing.
7. How has being a part of the CityCentral community affected you and your business?
It's given me my Fortress of Solitude where I can build my own creative space and then work more efficiently than I could in a different location. The team has been great to be around and the culture here is a kind one. All of that leads to a happier, more productive workday.
8 Any improvements we could do to help you or your business?
Nobody ever gets mad about more food together. 😁
9. If you had a friend in town, and you could take them to one of your favorite restaurants or spots in your community, where would you take them to?
I always hit up a couple of spots when friends come to visit. Those spots are Pecan Lodge, Maple & Motor, and Velvet Taco. I've done some testing out and these are the ones that are always a hit
