Tell us a little about Spectre Oil and Gas.

We are a small oil company focused on various oil and gas activities throughout different basins within the US. We operate in 5 different states, and we are just a few guys that are hustling and trying to make a living for our families and do our best to grow our business one step at a time.

What led you to start Spectre Oil and Gas?

I’ve always done contract work for Spectre since 2017, but after parting ways with a previous company, I strongly wanted to start leaning more into my sales and entrepreneurial side. So I joined up with an old friend of mine, whom I’ve known for 14 years at this point, and decided it was time to go all in on this side of the business.

What sets your business apart from your competitors?

We believe what sets us apart is our mindset and how we attack every aspect of our business. All of our guys are ex-college athletes and have a hunger to try to achieve as much off the field as we did on the field. It creates a great atmosphere for growth and accountability. We don’t believe it’s anything crazy that sets us apart, but we do believe having a good synergy and team have been our keys to success so far.

What is something you wish you’d known when you were just starting your business?

That I would have to make a lot of sacrifices in my personal life if I wanted to grow my business. Most days, I’m working in my office alone since a lot of our team works remotely. Staying rooted in my faith and my family are two big keys to keeping me sane and enjoying going to work every day.

How do you navigate your work-life balance?

I try to make sure I make time for the important things in life outside of work, or else I’m constantly thinking about how my work day went. I’m trying to make sure to be in The Word as much as I can, read different books to help improve my business or skill set, spend time with my wife and our dogs and cat, spend time with friends, or lead my group of college guys at my church. But my wife is good about reminding me that when my body is tired or I feel unbalanced, I need to listen to it and adjust my schedule, besides God, she is my biggest cheerleader and she is the best.

What is the most rewarding part of your job?

Being able to work with people I enjoy being around. We work with a lot of great companies and people that are just a blessing to us—also, having the flexibility, that comes with being a small business owner, to eat Chick-fil-A with my wife on a lunch break or enjoy the different opportunities I have to pour into the lives of next generation of guys below me by being available for a late lunch or even an early dinner.

How has being a part of the Spectre Oil and Gas community affected you and your business?

Like I’ve said previously, I mainly work alone, as does a lot of our team. So having discipline in our work is a top priority for all of us. But also, a lot of our guys are strong Christian men, and it’s great to get on phone calls, be encouraged by them, and be uplifted even when we have failures. Our team is good at recognizing those failures, asking why they occurred, and learning from them to build each other up.

If you had a friend in town and you could take them to one of your favorite restaurants or spots in your community, where would you take them?

Although I love eating food, I honestly can’t think of anywhere around me where I would take someone. But probably my favorite spot to eat in Texas is Cooper's Bar-B-Que. They have one in Fort Worth, and it is well worth the trip for some brisket, potato salad, and apple pie.
