Staying Motivated Throughout the Workday!

Staying motived during the workday can be difficult. Whether you’re a remote employee or starting your own business, having to structure your own day can be a daunting task. So, where do you start? Where do you find the necessary resources to give you the skills you need to succeed? One of the most important aspects of staying motivated is your individual health! Acknowledging that motivation comes from within is an important step. Taking care of your physical and mental health is incredibly important to staying motivated. When your home is your office, it can be tiring. Sometimes it’s tough to separate work and home life, get enough rest, and take enough breaks successfully navigate your environment.

Make sure you are setting a sleep and wake schedule. This will be a structured start and end to your daily routine that will help you plan enough rest to maintain healthy energy levels. One of the best ways to stay motivated is having enough energy to be motivated in the first place. Most smart phones have the ability to set reoccurring alarms and come with all different sounds. So find times that works best for you, find a sound that annoys you (but not too much) for your alarm, and get in the habit of sticking to that schedule!  Check out these quick guides for iPhone and Android.

Stay hydrated! I can not stress how important this is. Drinking water is one of the best ways to have energy throughout the day. Staying hydrated may seem like a “duh” thing, but many people do not get enough water during the day. Since the body is constantly losing water throughout the day, health officials recommend that you consume eight, eight-ounce glasses of water a day. This is equivalent to about 2 liters or a half gallon of water. Keep in mind that eight, eight-ounce glasses is a good goal to have, but every body has different needs. When you hear half a gallon of water, that may seem like a lot, but in order to stay focused, healthy and avoid dehydration, drinking water is the way to go! To achieve this goal, try setting a reminder on your phone every few hours, or getting a water bottle or cup that you like!  Consider getting a water bottle with a motivational saying on with time markers to help you keep up. Like this one and it even has an infuser to add some fruit for flavor.

Exercise: Work it outtttttt. One perk of working from home is having homemade meals right at your fingertips! Making some home cooked meals allows you to take a break from work and put your mind to something different. Being creative through cooking can help your mind be refreshed and recharged for your next work assignment. If you don’t have time to make something for lunch, try meal prepping the week before. Always be on the lookout for new and exciting recipes!   This website has something for everyone!

Next is exercise, After a long day of work, working out may be one of the last things you want to think about. Whether you’re going into an office or working from home, working out is an important tool to stay motivated and energized. This is another great habit to start! Find a time that works best for you and do some simple work outs. Set aside a designated time specifically for exercise and you’ll see a difference in your energy level. Looking for a way to get the family involved? Go for a quick run with the kiddo in the stroller for some added resistance, and make sure to keep that water bottle handy. Need a guided work out experience? There are plenty of instructional workout routines on Youtube and other platforms. Whether its yoga, HIIT or strength training, there is something out there for everyone.  Try out an online workout class with Fit Choice USA.

Stimulate your mind. These days we’re surrounded by technology. We use tech in every aspect of our lives and it’s a daily necessity. We work through laptops, communicate through our phones and laptops… It seems like it haunts our every waking moment, especially as a remote worker. Staring at your phone, scrolling through social media has become our mind numbing way to relax. But this isn’t relaxing, we’re still staring at blue light, and technology! Of course we know tech isn’t evil but designating some time to unwind without the help of a screen is very beneficial to your mind. Finding ways to stimulate your mind is as simple as picking up a book! Reading a book is a great way to learn something new, or to dive into a different world. Pick something you are interested in go for it! Make some extra time to expand your horizons and who knows maybe it will lead to a new and exciting hobby that benefits your work and home life. If you are needing some books but don’t have time to head to the bookstore you can download them on your kindle or try listening to audio books! Find a Space. Another great way is to find a space that has tools to help you stay productive. A co-working membership at an office center can be extremely beneficial if you don’t want to work from home and need a professional environment to work. While coffee shops and other public areas may not be the best places to stay focused on work, coworking spaces offer different memberships that are tailored to you. And many places offer help and advise on what package would be best for you based on your needs. Meeting rooms are also a great resource for you to hold a conference, interview or meet clients in a professional environment.
