Tell us a little bit about Behavioral Health Associates of Texas

Behavioral Health Associates of Texas provides psychological testing and evaluation for children 0-5 years of age with the focus on neurodevelopment in early childhood (i.e., developmental disabilities, autism, intellectual disability, behavioral difficulties, etc.)

What led you to join/start this company?

After working full time for 16 years in the public sector, it was time. I could no longer accept the limitations placed on me by managed care companies as a professional providing a unique clinical service. I always had a dream of starting my own company, being my own boss and calling the shots, developing a healthy workplace environment, and giving back to the community.

What sets your business apart from your competitors?

To begin, I provide bilingual (English/Spanish) and bicultural services. I also specialized in disorders of early childhood throughout the years and bring with me 16 years of full time experience in the field, with training experiences in 3 different countries, and across 3 states. I also pride myself on minimal wait times from beginning to end, which is crucial when linking the child with support services when needed.

What is the most rewarding part of your job?

Knowing that I am one of many hands in assisting and supporting children to learn, grow, and develop to their full potential. The most rewarding part is also being able to provide families with answers to questions they may have had for years, all through the use of scientific evidence and data. Their sense of relief (to many) and their gratitude continuously refills my cup.

What is one unexpected way your business has changed so far in your journey?

I had the opportunity to add an unexpected service (immigration evaluations) for the community. While I have experience providing these types of evaluations during my time in NYC, this was not on my radar for my current business as the majority of those evaluations are for adults. However, I am glad to be able to provide a needed service for the community.

What is something you have learned about yourself/the industry since starting/joining the business?

There’s a lot that goes on behind the scenes that you are often not taught (at least I wasn’t) in school. I also found that a lot of how my brain works has always been business minded and I’m excited to merge that with my scientist brain and see the results.

If you could have conversation over coffee with yourself from 5 years ago, what would you say?

Just do it! (I hope Nike doesn’t come for me)

If you had a friend visiting from out of town, where would you take them?

I would take them to Neighbors House grocery!
