Tell us a little about Indigo Psychiatry and Education Group.

Rebecca Puchkors and Annette Mancuso are psychiatric nurse practitioners with extensive experience in mental health nursing and therapy.

Our psychiatry practice is committed to providing holistic mental health care that addresses the mind, body, and spirit. We take a compassionate and integrative approach to treatment, blending evidence-based practices with alternative therapies to support overall well-being. In addition to caring for our patients, we are passionate about training the next generation of mental health providers, equipping them with the knowledge, skills, and empathy needed to foster positive change in the field of mental health.

What led you to starting Indigo Psychiatry and Education Group?

The decision to start our own psychiatry practice grew out of a shared passion for providing truly personalized mental health care. Having worked together for years, we discovered that our approach to healing—centered on trauma-informed, patient-focused care—aligns deeply. We believe in fostering recovery by building meaningful relationships with our clients and offering the time and attention needed for their healing journey. Starting our own practice allowed us the freedom to focus entirely on the individual, without the constraints of meeting quotas or managing limited visit times. This enables us to create a space where every person’s unique needs are met, ensuring they receive the care and support they deserve

What sets your business apart from your competitors?

What sets our psychiatry practice apart is our unwavering commitment to holistic, individualized care. We prioritize building trust-based relationships with our clients, offering the time and attention needed for true healing. Unlike other practices that may focus solely on quick fixes or medication management, we take a comprehensive approach that integrates mental, emotional, and physical well-being. Our trauma-informed, patient-centered philosophy ensures that each person is treated with respect, dignity, and compassion, fostering lasting recovery and growth.

In addition, we are deeply committed to mentoring and educating the next generation of mental health providers, particularly nurse practitioner students. Our practice offers structured educational programs that include didactic hours and group supervision to facilitate their learning. Through these initiatives, we promote recovery-oriented care, equipping students with the knowledge and skills they need to provide compassionate, patient-centered care throughout their careers.

What is something you wish you’d known when you were just starting your business?

When starting our psychiatry practice, we wish we had known just how challenging it can be to balance the growth of the practice with the demands of providing high-quality care, especially while working part-time. Although we are fortunate to have a strong network of professionals to collaborate with, which has been invaluable in providing comprehensive care for our clients, finding the time and energy to focus on our growth plan has proven to be more difficult than we anticipated. The administrative aspects and the need to strategically grow the practice require more attention than we initially realized, but through perseverance, collaboration, and learning from each experience, we are building a practice that truly reflects our values and vision.

How do you navigate your work-life balance?

Navigating work-life balance while working full-time and starting our psychiatry practice has been a delicate challenge, however we practice what we preach. We prioritize effective communication with each other, ensuring we are aligned and supportive in both our personal and professional lives. Finding time for ourselves is essential—whether it’s rescuing cats and dogs, engaging in creative crafts, or simply taking a break—these activities help us recharge and reignite our passion for serving others. By maintaining this balance, we’re able to provide high-quality care to our clients while continuing to grow our practice in a way that reflects our values and commitment to holistic, patient-centered care.

What is the most rewarding part of your job?

The most rewarding part of being a psychiatric nurse practitioner is witnessing the transformation in our clients as they recover and begin to live their best lives. Seeing individuals overcome challenges, heal from trauma, and regain a sense of hope and purpose is incredibly fulfilling. Being part of their journey, providing the support and tools they need, and watching them thrive gives us the deepest sense of purpose and reminds us of why we do this work.

If you had a friend in town and you could take them to one of your favorite restaurants or spots in your community, where would you take them?

If a friend were visiting Dallas, we’d take them to the beautiful Dallas Arboretum to enjoy the gardens, then explore the vibrant Bishop Arts District for great food and shopping, and finish the day with a concert at the Echo Lounge or Granada for some fun.

We would like to thank Rebecca and Annette for taking the time to teach us about their work and their team.
